Hieu Vo
Hieu Vo is a photographer and ceramic artist based in Helsinki, Finland.
Hieu's works express their inner world through an emphasis on repeated natural subjects and movements. Drawing from their personal experience to find understanding, their works explore the temporality of life in connection to other people and to nature.
Through photography, Hieu discovers the unseen world of longing and understanding, while challenging the notion of photography as a tool for memory. Using multiple long exposures on the same photo, Hieu explores how realities and memories can vastly shift from one instant to another.
With ceramics, Hieu creates functional forms with unique patterns using Nerikomi - or layered clay techniques. Their works reflect the intricate beauties of nature through flower and plant motifs. Their long-term project “Every flower is a piece of home” tells the story of living in a foreign land, finding a connection to the land itself, and reconnecting to cultures and root values.
